Definition
Under DPCM 8 July 2003 the exposure limit protects against established short-term effects, while the attention value (valore di attenzione) and quality objective (obiettivo di qualità) are precautionary tiers set far lower and applied where exposure is prolonged — inside buildings occupied four hours a day or more and their balconies and courtyards, and outdoors in intensively frequented areas. Both were 6 V/m from 2003 until 30 April 2024, when Law 214/2023 raised them to 15 V/m. They are precautionary in intent but legally binding, like the Swiss installation limit value.
