Declared attenuation

Each figure is the manufacturer's declaration for the frequency and the layer or coat count named next to it. The percentage is computed from the dB value, not quoted separately.

1 GHz, single layer, flat sample
41 dB — removes 99.992% of the incident power density (1 part in 12,589 gets through)
1 GHz, two layers
54 dB — removes 100.000% of the incident power density (1 part in 251,189 gets through)

Test method

Manufacturer-declared at 1 GHz, measured to ASTM D4935-10 or IEEE Std 299-2006, with a screening report per material.

Construction

82% cotton, 17% copper, 1% silver, 70 g/m², 250 cm wide, tighter weave than NATURELL.

Typical application

  • Curtains
  • Bed canopies
  • Room dividers

What the figure does not cover

  • 3 dB above NATURELL at the same frequency — a factor of two in power, which is far less than a single gap in the installation costs
  • Not conductive as a surface: no grounding, and no effect on low-frequency electric fields
  • Reflective, so a partly enclosed space containing a transmitter can read higher inside
  • Declared on a flat sample; drape, folds and closures are what decide the installed result

What these figures are

Every attenuation value on this page is the manufacturer's own declaration for a flat sample in a test fixture, reproduced so that products can be compared on the same terms. It is not a regulatory limit, not an independent test, and not a prediction of what a meter will read after installation — an installed shield is set by its weakest path, so the only figure that describes a room is a before-and-after measurement of that room.

    Shielding & remediation

  • Shielding attenuation

Decibels of field reduction provided by a material. Every 10 dB is a factor of 10 in power density: 30 dB removes 99.9%, 10 dB removes 90%.
