What the figure does not cover
- Mesh attenuation falls as wavelength approaches the aperture size, so the 1 GHz figure does not carry to mmWave frequencies
- Elements must overlap by at least 5 cm and be bonded together; an unbonded overlap behaves as a slot and leaks
- Grounding is required to shield low-frequency electric fields, and the gauze is highly conductive, so it must be bonded correctly to avoid becoming a hazard near wiring
- The declared figure is for a flat sample: the installed result is set by the least-shielded path, usually a window or a penetration
What these figures are
Every attenuation value on this page is the manufacturer's own declaration for a flat sample in a test fixture, reproduced so that products can be compared on the same terms. It is not a regulatory limit, not an independent test, and not a prediction of what a meter will read after installation — an installed shield is set by its weakest path, so the only figure that describes a room is a before-and-after measurement of that room.
