Declared attenuation
Each figure is the manufacturer's declaration for the frequency and the layer or coat count named next to it. The percentage is computed from the dB value, not quoted separately.
- 1 GHz, single layer, flat sample
- 60 dB — removes 100.000% of the incident power density (1 part in 1,000,000 gets through)
Test method
Manufacturer-declared at 1 GHz, measured to ASTM D4935-10 or IEEE Std 299-2006, with a screening report per material.
Construction
Polyester netting metallised with copper and nickel plus a protective coating, 0.2 mm mesh, 50 g/m², 130 cm wide.
Typical application
- Insect screens in frames
- Air outlets and vents
- Equipment and headphone openings
What the figure does not cover
- Interior use only: the manufacturer restricts it to protect the metallisation from corrosion, which would degrade attenuation invisibly
- Needs a proper conductive seal to the surrounding wall shielding or frame; an unsealed edge leaks and can leave the installation no better than an ordinary fly screen at about 25 dB
- Copper and nickel coatings lose conductivity with abrasion and corrosion, and the loss is not visible
- A single declared frequency point is not a curve: aperture-limited materials fall off as the wavelength approaches the mesh size
What these figures are
Every attenuation value on this page is the manufacturer's own declaration for a flat sample in a test fixture, reproduced so that products can be compared on the same terms. It is not a regulatory limit, not an independent test, and not a prediction of what a meter will read after installation — an installed shield is set by its weakest path, so the only figure that describes a room is a before-and-after measurement of that room.
Where to buy
EMR Shielding Solutions is a related company of WebKMS, which publishes EMFBase, and sells this product. The link is a stockist listing only: every figure on this page comes from the manufacturer's own documentation, and no specification, limitation or citation depends on it.
Related records
- Metal mesh and expanded-metal screen
Woven or expanded metal used in wall build-ups, vents and window screens; attenuation depends on aperture size relative to wavelength, so a mesh that works at 900 MHz can leak badly at 5 GHz.
Shielding & remediation
- Shielding attenuation
Decibels of field reduction provided by a material. Every 10 dB is a factor of 10 in power density: 30 dB removes 99.9%, 10 dB removes 90%.
