What certification should an EMF consultant have?

All practitioner credentials here are voluntary and private; prefer ones with a syllabus, exam and renewal (EMRS, BBEC, IBN, CRadP). ISO/IEC 17025 accredits a lab for a specific method and is what regulators require.

Question

Which EMF consultant certifications actually mean something?

Answer

There is no government licence for residential EMF surveying anywhere, so every credential in this field is voluntary and issued by a private body — which makes what the body verifies the only thing worth checking. The substantive ones name a syllabus, an examination and a renewal requirement: EMRS, BBEC and BBNC from the Building Biology Institute, building-biology consultant training from IBN, CRadP/IRadP from the SRP for the UK, and industrial-hygiene credentials for workplace exposure. ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation is different in kind and stronger where it applies: it certifies a laboratory for a named measurement method rather than certifying a person, and it is what regulators require — in Switzerland only a firm on the SAS register may produce a compliance measurement under the NISV.

  • Schweizerische Akkreditierungsstelle (SAS)

The Swiss accreditation body. Its public STS register is the authoritative way to check whether a firm is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 for NISV measurements of mobile base stations — the only kind of report Swiss authorities act on.

  • Do I need an accredited measurement to challenge a cell tower?

Regulators act on measurements made by the prescribed method by an accredited body (in Switzerland, an ISO/IEC 17025 firm in the SAS register). Your own readings are for triage, not for compliance.
